International Tattoos and Performances
The Drums and Pipes have been fortunate to represent our country and Regiment at a number
of world class international events, including the world famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (UK);
the Basel Tattoo (Switzerland); the Berlin Tattoo (Germany); the Cherry Blossom Festival in Jinhae
(South Korea); and were one of six bands invited to perform at a special event commemorating the
90 th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II in Windsor (UK).
South African
Military Tattoos and Performances
We are always proud to take part in SA Military and Regimental events including the annual
Opening of Parliament (SONA) Parade, various Regimental parades and performances. We have also
performed in numerous military tattoos over the years in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and, of
course, Cape Town.
SA Pipe Band Competitions
The Drums and Pipes are regular competitors in SA’s thriving pipe band competition circuit,
convened by the Pipe Bands Association of South Africa. Over our history we have won numerous
trophies and awards, and currently compete in Grade 3.
Community Outreach Performances
We love to get out and play in the community and introduce the stirring sounds of bagpipes
and drums to new audiences. We regularly perform at events such as the Mitchell’s Plain Festival
(SANDF recruiting event); the Last Night of the Proms, and Carols by Candlelight (in conjunction with
Wynberg Rotary Club); to name a couple. During the Covid 19 pandemic second wave we put
together a series of performances outside various Western Cape hospitals, to show our support and
appreciation to our frontline workers.
